55 years ago, Lou Zhongping began his struggling years of rushing around China when he was only 14. In order to make a living, he did more than twenty kinds of jobs in the following 10 years, which provided him with much experience but deprived him of some opportunities. As the saying goes, A man is steadfast at the age of thirty. After deep consideration, he decided to make a career with a humble commodity – the straw manufacturing.
In 1991, Lou Zhongping began to sell straws on a commission basis and gradually became the largest self-employed individual household in Yiwu market. In the Third Plenary Session of the 14th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in 1993, it was pointed out that the socialist market economic system was combined with the basic system of socialism. Coincidentally, an owner of straw processing trade in Yiwu decided to change his trade, and Lou Zhongping seized the opportunity and bought straw manufacturing machines from him. From then on, he embarked on his career. However, with the increasingly fierce industrial competition and rapidly changing trends of needs, he knew that quality of products must be the first priority for long-term development.
In 1994, China was officially and fully connected to the Internet. As the application for trademark registration and the creation of the brand effect were inseparable from the Internet, Lou realized its extraordinary value. Hence, he began to reconsider the value chain of market, users, products and enterprises, and then excavated the hidden value of the straw. In order to improve himself, Lou entered Zhejiang University to study economic management, and finally obtained his bachelor’s degree. It was in 2000 that Lou founded Yiwu Shuangtong Daily Necessities Company Limited and three years later he took the lead in opening up overseas markets with the help of Internet, which straight away made Shuangtong straw the world's largest straw manufacturer. As the leader in the industry, Yiwu Shuangtong Daily Necessities Company Limited has undertaken the job of drafting and compilation of ISO International standard for drinking straws (At present, most of the international standards for straws are derived from those of Shuangtong, including the provisions of production process and evaluation basis). In addition, Shuangtong has also developed PLA biodegradable straws to achieve the target of using materials from the nature and returning to the nature.
After decades of persistence, Lou Zhongping has made a negligible Shuangtong straw the world's No. 1 brand in the straw industry, achieving his goal of devoting all his life to one thing: the straw. Making full use of Internet way of thinking, he has led his business to scientific and efficient development, and has finally achieved a perfect transformation of himself from a traditional merchant to a modern one.
